A bus company has agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by an Oakland woman who was hit by a bus while riding her bicycle in Emeryville in 2012. It was alleged that the bus, which was empty of passengers and on the way back to the transit yard, was making a left turn, did not slow down, and did not make sure the intersection was clear. McClendon was hit head on, causing her to sustain facial fractures, a mild traumatic brain injury, and to be in a coma for 12 days.
